Holistic Health: Take back your power!
I recently had a long chat with my very passionate and diligent GP. She bemoaned the fact that the majority of people still waited until they were ill to seek medical assistance. She talked about the myriad of training that she has done in holistic health and how frustrated she gets. She has patients who get the news that they have high cholesterol, their heart is showing signs of being impacted and they need to work on their diet and make changes. She spends time educating and working on a plan with them and they state their commitment. Then, more often than not, a year later when they return, they have worse results, having made no changes and the cycle begins again.
Her frustration is reaching epic proportions with the amount of people blaming heart and other conditions on the COVID vaccines, when their lifestyle had clearly been an issue. Whilst she acknowledged that we’re not yet certain about the impacts of the vaccines and it’s definitely a “watch this space”, she noted that she hasn’t seen an increase in heart and other illnesses in her domain since COVID. She was adamant it was very similar to pre-covid days, but people were focusing their energy on blaming vaccines instead of taking responsibility for their health.
What does that mean? It means when we take responsibility and commit to a holistic health regime, we are eliminating many of the risk factors associated with heart and many other diseases. If we eat poorly, drink alcohol excessively, are stressed and are sedentary – what do we expect? Of course, it will impact our health.
If we live life in fight or flight mode and we don’t adopt tools which help calm us down and centre us, of course our health will suffer. If we don’t eat well and weight becomes an issue, then we are at risk of type two diabetes, as well as numerous other diseases. We can’t blame that all on the COVID vaccine. I’m not arguing about whether or not the COVID vaccine has caused further health issues, I don’t know, and the research is inconclusive. I’m not an expert in that domain but I am arguing that we can all take responsibility for our own health by making good choices and there is a myriad of scientific evidence to support that!
Holistic health, eating well, drinking less (or not at all), getting exercise every day, managing stress, finding joy, connecting with other people – these are not guarantees of a long, disease-free existence but they are within your power and the research is clear – manage these factors and your odds of a longer, healthier life is greatly improved.
So, I will continue to activate for personal responsibility, a dedication to holistic health and a wellbeing approach to life. Of course, I will make decisions on vaccines based on the scientific evidence, but I will take control of my own health journey and do everything in my power to manage it. We all have the power to make these choices.
Control what we can control – especially when it comes to our health! If longevity is your goal, don’t wait to treat – PREVENT!
