Just show up! One step!
When you’re feeling down and overwhelmed. When the dark cloud of hopelessness descends. When it feels like you can’t do anything. It’s on those days you just need to show up. Take one step!
Get up.
Have a shower.
Get dressed.
Go outside.
Draw in some of the sun’s energy.
Breathe deeply.
Just show up. Get up. Get dressed and just show up. Take one step.
The day might be as awful as you anticipated. You might not make progress. It might be a waste of a day.
But you’ll never know if you don’t show up.
Besides, you’ve already made progress.
You showed up.
The hardest steps are often the smallest. As Lao Tzu said – ‘The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step!’ It is absolutely true. By showing up, you’re taking that small step.
The worst that can happen is you fail.
Then you show up again the next day.
What if this is your final day on earth? Is not showing up how you want to spend it?
We all have our crosses to bear, and we all have burdens. We all have self-doubts and every single one of us beats ourselves up. Yes, every, single one of us.
That’s why when you do show up. You need to congratulate yourself. You need to cheer loudly for yourself. You need to recognise that on those dark and gloomy days that was your Mount Everest, and you need to be proud of your courage.
Don’t compare your small step to anyone else’s. Compare your small step to what you did yesterday.
Just show up.
For today, that’s all you need to do.
Just show up and be proud of yourself.
It’s one small step.
