Life hack two – Magnesium spray for a good night’s sleep
I’m not entirely sure why this works but for me, it absolutely does.
My ironclad sleep schedule had slipped recently. It started with my skin cancer treatment and then I just couldn’t get it back on track. I went back to my routine:
• Clean, fresh sheets with all the chemo washed away
• Dark, cool room
• Stop eating at 6pm
• Bath and reading from 7pm
• No screen time from 7pm
• Herbal sleep tea and one large glass of water at 8pm
• Sleep meditation at 9pm
This usually works for me, but during and after my skin cancer treatment I would get to sleep but wake up at 2am and not be able to get back to sleep. In Chinese medicine that time is indicative of liver issues, but as a non-drinker I felt this was unlikely. (Just in case, I booked back into acupuncture.)
What did work was spraying the soles of my feet with magnesium spray and putting socks on to ensure it absorbed. Since I started this my beautiful seven to eight hours a night sleep has returned, my diet has improved again, and my exercise is better because I am clearer and have more energy after getting the rest I need. My body is also healing so well after the treatment. Everything starts and ends with sleep.
For me, the proof was in the using, but I found some medical support for its use. As always, do your own research.
MetroHealth Center for Sleep Medicine (USA)
Research shows that magnesium blocks N-methyl-D-aspartate (a receptor in your body that can hinder your sleep) and stimulates gamma-aminobutyric acid (a receptor that can promote good sleep), said Dennis Auckley, MD, director of MetroHealth’s Center for Sleep Medicine.
